Shell Kirk,
Property Manager, Atlanta
How long have you worked in CRE?
5 years.
Tenure with TW?
4 years.
How did you get your start in the industry?
I fell into the industry by accident. I started out as a temp worker and ended up being brought on as a permanent team member.
What deal or project are you most proud of?
I was in charge of our building’s access control upgrade, which was my first involvement in a large-scale capital project. We replaced 180+ readers and switched out over 3,000 badge cards with little impact to the tenants. This is still one of my proudest accomplishments.
Professional organizations?
I was an avid member of BOMA Nashville and anticipate participating in BOMA Atlanta now that I have moved.
Favorite TYP event?
Early in the pandemic, TYP held a Zoom meeting focused on calming fears of newer professionals. It was a very nice conversation in very uncertain times.
Interests/hobbies outside of work?
I love playing video games, reading, riding my dual-sport motorcycle and traveling! I am also a very big fan of my orange tabby cat, Link.
Favorite spot in your city?
I am still new to Atlanta. However, in Nashville my favorite eatery was Mas Taco, and I really enjoyed the outdoor concerts held at the Ascend Amphitheater.
If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be?
I would have a classic burger and fries with Cleopatra. I think the food would blow her mind, and I would love to pick her brain on her opinion of Rome and Caesar. I wonder about her motives and opinions on the government and society in comparison to Egypt, and if she could imagine Caesar being overthrown. I’d also get tips on where undiscovered tombs might be hidden.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve been given?
My mentor once told me to create a COB (Cover my Booty) folder. I bcc myself on any important notices or replies sent out and autosave them to this folder in Outlook. This tip has saved me countless times!
