In August, Transwestern Anaheim coordinated a DEI volunteer event at the Orange County Rescue Mission. Volunteers were placed in the warehouse to sort and pack food, and in the kitchen to assist with lunch and dinner prep. The site offers free housing, education, career planning, job training and meals for those in need on a 2-3-year phase-out program to reintegrate into society.
In meeting individuals on the campus, one especially stood out. The team learned that the mission’s lead chef owned a restaurant in Anaheim that was forced to close during the pandemic. Additionally, he contracted COVID-19 and was hospitalized for three weeks. Following a divorce, he found himself without a home, but after connecting with the organization he is now back on his feet, running his own kitchen, and taking courses to prepare himself for the future.
Thank you for representing Transwestern in the community Anne Tomita, Bethany Ahnert, Connie Muramoto, Dinora Villatoro, Julie Duong, Lysa Horan, Marybell Aguirre, Minh Ngo, Sean Lutges, Vanessa Masters, Vivian Snelling and Yen Le!
